We use Long Range Ultrasonic Testing (LRUT) to inspect difficult-to-reach areas prone to hidden corrosion, such as equipment and piping that is partially buried, soil-to-air interfaces, concrete-to-air interfaces, piping encased in sleeves or concrete, and critical sections inside storage tanks. These areas, often challenging to inspect due to their location, may remain unnoticed unless equipment is lifted, taken out of service, or unearthed.

LRUT effectively detects external or internal corrosion in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials from a distance of up to 3 feet, depending on material type, surface condition, corrosion level, coatings, and temperature. This non-destructive method offers a robust, efficient, and accurate solution for inspecting pipelines, tubing, and tanks. By integrating LRUT into maintenance and inspection routines, we enhance our ability to monitor and manage the integrity of critical infrastructure, ensuring high safety, reliability, and compliance standards while preserving material integrity and extending operational effectiveness.

    • Extended Coverage: Inspects difficult to inspect areas of pipelines and tubing from a single location, reducing the need for multiple access points
    • Corrosion Detection: Effective in detecting corrosion at touch points, structure(soil/concrete) to air interfaces along with general / localized corrosion along piping and tanks
    • Erosion Monitoring: Detects erosion in piping and tubing, especially in areas difficult to access with traditional methods
    • Non-Destructive: Maintains the integrity of the inspected material
    • Efficiency: Minimizes the need for extensive excavation, lifting of pipes, removal of tightly bonded paint, or extensive insulation removal, making it a cost-effective solution for pipeline and tank inspection
  • LRUT offers a semi-automated or fully automated method for quickly identifying hidden corrosion. Using advanced ultrasonic equipment and machined calibration blocks, LRUT provides accurate sizing and depth determination, ensuring high repeatability.

    • On-Site Reporting: Electronic reports can be generated on-site, with multiple reports produced daily depending on the scan length. Reporting on large diameter tank areas may take longer due to the extensive data obtained.
  • LRUT is designed for difficult-to-inspect areas. It is a cost-effective approach to detecting metal loss at support-to-pipe interfaces where uncoated, dissimilar metals contact each other, causing galvanic corrosion, or where regular line movement gradually removes metal.

    • Soil-to-Air and Concrete-to-Air Interfaces: Common corrosion at these interfaces is due to rainwater, mud, and soil pH levels
    • Support Interfaces: Pressure vessels supported by concrete are prone to moisture retention and corrosion
    • Storage Tanks: Inspect critical storage tank areas from the outside to detect corrosion in the annular area (chime) or verify the integrity of internal fillet welds
    • Comprehensive Inspection: Thoroughly assesses difficult to inspect areas of pipelines, tubing and tanks, detecting defects inaccessible through other methods
    • Increased Efficiency: Inspects areas from a single location, reducing inspection times and operational costs
    • Improved Accuracy and Reliability: Provides high-resolution mapping and consistent coupling for accurate and reliable detection and characterization of corrosion
    • Non-Destructive: Preserves the integrity of inspected materials, ideal for critical applications
    • Adaptability: Suitable for various materials and inspection scenarios, enhancing utility across industries such as oil & gas, petrochemical, and power generation
    • Minimal Disruption: Requires minimal operational disruption, inspecting painted, insulated and buried pipelines without extensive excavation or insulation removal
